Introduction

Step by step construction of a Mansard loft conversion to a standard terraced house.

Prior to week one,a start meeting introduces you to your site foreman and takes you through a step by step plan of works over the next 6 weeks.

scaffolding is erected and all relevant permissions are obtained from the relevant local authority.

Week 1

Steels arrive and are inserted at ridge level to re-support the front roof slope and take the weight of the new flat roof which will be part of the mansard structure.

Velux windows are inserted into the front roof slope. Steels are then inserted at low level (above the existing ceiling rafters) to support the front roof slope and to take the new independant floor.

New independant floor is constructed in timber between the low level steel beams. The new floor is then nogged out and insulated to give it structural integrity and increase sound proofing between floors.

The mansard is framed out over the rear roof slope to ensure weather protection throughout the construction process.
